3 easy triggers to pray through your day
Letting God transform mundane moments into kingdom work
Two weeks ago, we discussed intercessory prayer. Today, I’ve got 3 simple ways for you to pray for others during your day. These can happen even on the busiest of days and could transform your life if you commit to them.
1. Pray for the person who will be sitting in your seat next.
A friend shared this in a recent message he spoke and it seemed so simple but something I’ve never thought to do! Imagine the opportunities!! Having lunch at a restaurant? Waiting at the DMV? Sitting in church? Or a park bench? Before you get up, pray for the person who will sit there next.
2. Pray for the person next to you while you pump gas.
I was getting gas the other day and felt prompted to pray for the lady in front of me. I got curious about what her story was and what God wanted to do in her life, and I just started praying. Can you imagine if you were triggered to pray each time we got gas for a total stranger? I mean, y’all are bored waiting for the pump to finish, too, right? Or thinking it’s too cold or hot or windy or rainy? What if we noticed people around us instead?
3. Pray for someone when you hit snooze.
The other day, I did not want to get out of bed. It had been a restless night of sleep, so I wasn’t ready to get up and move, BUT I was alert enough to pray. I crawled back into bed and asked God who I could pray for. The time was so sweet and precious that I hit snooze like 3 more times. I prayed for people who had been struggling. I prayed for Tyler and the girls. I even had a name come to mind of someone who had been in hospice and passed away just a few hours later.
If there’s one thing this world and the news we are inundated with should tell us, it’s that there are opportunities for prayer all around us. I hope this spurs on a few opportunities to pray this week!
PSALM PRAYER
Each week I share one verse as I read through chapters of Psalms of something I can pray over.
Psalm 40:1-3
“I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry. He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure. He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord.”
Lord, you saved me! Put a song in my heart today. May praise be on my lips as I think about my own salvation and how you are working in the lives of those around me, too. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
RESOURCE LIBRARY
If you aren’t sure how to start praying for others, my book Springboard Prayers is a great tool to help you get started! In it, I share 20 prayers for people including the lost, your spouse, kids, parents, best friend, mentor, pastor, boss, coworkers, neighbors, enemies, long-lost friends, poor and hungry, persecuted Christians, missionaries, orphans, widows, political leaders, first responders, and teachers. Grab it here.
JOURNAL HACK
Don’t always keep your journal on you, but want to add to it on the go? Keep a pack of sticky notes handy. Write out prayer requests on them and stick them in your journal. Y’all know I love sticky notes, so this was a no-brainer for me! There is no rewriting from the planner to the prayer journal. Just stick the sticky on whatever section the request is for or on your tab.
ASKING QUESTIONS
On Monday, we asked, “Should you traditionally publish or self-publish?” I went deep into it, sharing all the things I wish I had heard about before becoming an author (advances, sales, etc.). Tell your writer friends!
Next week, we’re talking about legalism! Comment on this post with any questions you have specifically for me to cover.
Happy Wednesday Friends! Genuinely, I am praying for you!

Love the seat idea!!
I love these ideas! I usually pick up my phone and start scrolling while waiting on the gas pump to stop. Praying is a much better way to spend that time and I’m honestly embarrassed I haven’t been doing it already!
