Are other moms the problem?

If I asked moms what exhausts us most, I bet we’d all unanimously agree: our kids. And for good reason. Our kids are the ones who keep us up at night. They’re the ones with a million questions. They’re the ones that challenge our rules and require patience and discipline.

Ramon Casas

We all know kids can be exhausting. I won’t argue otherwise…but have you ever tried being around negative moms?

I’m convinced that a far more subversive drain on our mom energy is actually the negativity of other moms.

Think about it.

You can spend all your friend time with one of two moms:

The mom who can acknowledge the hard stuff while still finding the joy in motherhood. She doesn’t pretend things are perfect but she is resilient and faithful to keep going.

Or

The mom who constantly talks about drowning or just getting by. She sends memes that seem funny in the moment about how terrible motherhood is. She’s always complaining that she can’t do anything for herself and is basically a martyr every day for her kids.

I’d like to assume we’d all pick #1 but the reality is, the second one actually feels like it has some perks.
