I no longer identify as a sock wearer
Change is possible where we least expect it
After 10+ years, I no longer sleep in socks! A fact that will make sense why I’m sharing in just a minute.
Every single night for at least 10 years, my last step before bed was to put socks on my freshly lotioned feet. I didn’t just do it in the winter on cold nights. I didn’t kick them off midway through my sleep. I loved my terry cloth white athletic ankle socks. I needed them to sleep. When we’d prep for trips, I packed nervously until I knew my precious socks were accounted for and walked through scenarios of what I’d do if I forgot them. I cannot stress enough how much I needed them.
Then one day…I just stopped.
I can’t explain it, but I slept without them one night and never went back. It still seems strange to say but it had a profound effect on me to realize I can change in ways I have assumed I can’t.
I thought I’d die a sock wearer, but instead, I cannot wait to hop in bed and feel the sheets on my feet. It’s not just a new thing but a new identity for me. And yes, I’m still just talking about socks!
Imagine the actually important stuff like prayer!! Maybe you have felt like you’ll never be consistent in prayer. You’ll never be the friend someone goes to for prayer.
Stop that! Don’t ever make that assumption again.
In Jesus’ name, I pray your passion and desire for the Lord grows by leaps and bounds. I pray you choose prayer in moments you normally wouldn’t imagine yourself choosing in. I pray you surprise yourself by how your identity changes.
And maybe even overnight. Socks or no socks.

PSALM PRAYER
Each week I share one verse as I read through chapters of Psalms of something I can pray over.
Psalm 57:1-2
“Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me, for in you my soul takes refuge; in the shadow of your wings I will take refuge, till the storms of destruction pass by. I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me.”
Lord, I come to you knowing you are my only place of refuge. Have mercy on me. Hide me in the shadow of your wing, where I find safety from the storms. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
